Holswich Joins with Bray Park High Students to Spread Child Protection Message

07/09/2012

Pine Rivers MP, Mr Seath Holswich, joined with staff and students at Bray Park State High School today to mark White Balloon Day - spreading the message that child sexual abuse cannot be tolerated in our society.

White Balloon Day is an initiative of Bravehearts designed to increase awareness of child sexual abuse issues and seeks to educate, empower and protect Australian children.

Bray Park State High prepared posters, balloons and bows and decorated the school's front fence to share the White Balloon Day message.

"Child Protection Week is an important week in our calendar," Mr Holswich said.

"It is crucial that we stand united as a society who won't tolerate any form of abuse towards children."

"Statistics show that 1 in 5 children will be sexually assaulted before the age of 18 - this is simply unacceptable."

If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual abuse, you can seek help by contacting Bravehearts on 1800 272 831; Lifeline on 13 11 44; or Kids Help Line on 1800 551 800.

Child sexual abuse should be reported to Queensland Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
