PINE RIVERS PERFORMANCE VENUE REMAINS HIGH ON AGENDA
Finding a permanent home for performing arts in Pine Rivers remains a priority for local performing arts organisations and Pine Rivers MP, Mr Seath Holswich.
Mr Holswich yesterday hosted a roundtable discussion for local performing arts organisations with Minister for Science, Information Technology, Innovation and The Arts, The Hon Ian Walker MP.
“Representatives of the various organisations in attendance all expressed their desire to see Pine Rivers have its own high quality performance venue, to showcase and develop the talented performers in our region,” Mr Holswich said.
“It is disappointing that groups such as Pine Rivers Musical Association have been forced to perform in Redcliffe, because there is no suitable venue for significant musical productions closer to Pine Rivers.”
Mr Holswich has restated his desire to see a venue incorporated into Council’s planned Strathpine Gateway Project.
“Whilst providing venues for grassroots performing arts organisations is largely a Council responsibility, I reaffirm my commitment to working closely with Council to secure some state funding to assist with the establishment of our own local venue.”
“I have written to Mayor Sutherland today offering my support to Council should they proceed with this option.”
“Every one of our local performing arts organisations have shown a willingness to work together with Council and the State Government to make this dream a reality.”
“We owe it to our talented local performers to provide them with a venue to showcase and develop their skills and talents.”
“A high quality local performing arts venue would also help boost cultural tourism in the Moreton Bay Region, meaning more local jobs in Pine Rivers.”
The State Government has signaled its intention, should it be re-elected, to set aside $100 million from the leasing of State assets under the Strong Choices Program to build new cultural infrastructure across Queensland.
“I hope we will be able to benefit from that fund in Pine Rivers,” Mr Holswich added.
