Funding Available for Cultural Celebrations

18/07/2014

Applications opened today for grants of up to $20,000 under the Valuing Diversity program for multicultural community events to be held in 2015.

State Members Seath Holswich and Trevor Ruthenberg have encouraged local multicultural groups to consider applying for State Government funding for events which promote greater understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.

Funding for events under the Valuing Diversity program will be available in two categories - Signature Events and Culturally Diverse Events - providing grants up to $20,000 and $10,000 respectively.

“Signature events are multicultural festivals around the state which will generally have a proven track record of large attendance and community involvement,” Mr Ruthenberg said.

“Culturally Diverse Events are events which promote broader acceptance and understanding of the culture and heritage of small and emerging cultural communities.

“Queensland has a richly diverse ethnic composition, and the Newman Government wants to be sure that diversity is celebrated right across the state.

Mr Holswich said “These community-based events give people the chance to share, acknowledge and respect our differences.

“The Newman Government is committed to supporting the development of strong multicultural communities in all areas of Queensland.

“The multicultural grants program ensures Queenslanders have the opportunity to celebrate the state’s wealth of cultural diversity through a variety of great events.”

Applications close on Friday 22 August.
