MPs Challenge Locals to Support Local Businesses this Christmas
Local MPs are again challenging local residents to support local businesses this Christmas, through launching the third annual 100% Local Christmas Challenge buy local campaign.
State Member for Pine Rivers, Mr Seath Holswich, challenged local residents to take up the challenge of buying 100% of their Christmas needs from local businesses this December.
"Through this campaign, we are encouraging all local residents to support their local businesses and provide an economic boost to their local community."
"Each dollar spent in a local business returns many times that amount to the local economy through employee wages, rates and the purchase of goods and materials."
State Member for Kallangur, Mr Trevor Ruthenberg, is expanding on the buy local campaign in Kallangur this year through coordinating a shop front decorating competition.
"Residents can go in the draw to win one of three wheelbarrows loaded with prizes just by shopping at local businesses and voting on the best Christmas shop front display."
Locals can receive updates and special offers from local businesses via the Facebook page facebook/LocalChristmasChallenge
The 100% Local Christmas Challenge, started by Mr Holswich and Mr Ruthenberg in 2011, has grown to become a campaign used in regions such as the Gold Coast and Redlands, and was also the catalyst for the Queensland Government's Think Queensland, Buy Locally campaign.
