Get Ready for Summer

Queenslanders are being urged to get their homes prepared for Queensland's wild summer weather as a part of Get Ready Week.

Today Trevor Ruthenberg MP, Reg Gulley MP and Seath Holswich MP along with members of the Petrie SES held an information stall at the Aldi Centre in Kallangur to discuss how residents and businesses can get ready for this summer.

Monica Sims, Deputy Group leader of the Petrie SES said "Educating and preparing people is always a great idea and I am pleased that I could be down here with Trevor and Reg educating people on how to get ready for summer."

Mr Gulley said that the, "Government was trying to make things as simple as possible for people by releasing a brand new digital initiative ‘Get Ready-one step at a time' where people can sign up for their own personalised Get Ready program.

"By entering some simple details and local risks they will receive a new task each week to build their resilience."

Trevor Ruthenberg MP said, "it is important that people think about how they can also help emergency service personnel, such as having basic food and water prepared instead of relying on emergency services to provide these items in a crisis.

"If the worst does happen and people are prepared, emergency services personnel are able to direct their resources to helping those who cannot help themselves, like the elderly and isolated."

Seath Holswich MP said "The NSW Bushfires are a tragic reminder that people need to start getting ready now because we never know when a disaster could affect us."

Get Ready packs are available for collection from the office of Trevor Ruthenberg MP and the Office of Reg Gulley MP.
