20/08/2013

Members for Pine Rivers and Kallangur, Seath Holswich and Trevor Ruthenberg, alongside Minister for Community Safety Jack Dempsey marked the contribution of senior Queenslanders to the state's emergency services today as part of Senior's Week.

Seniors Week celebrates the contribution made by seniors in various walks of life across many communities in Queensland.

"The Government is dedicated to recognising the efforts of seniors in our emergency services and our volunteer emergency services,"

"As I have travelled across Queensland, I have met many seniors who are making significant contributions to firefighting, emergency marine rescue and the SES." Minister Dempsey said.

Mr Holswich and Mr Ruthenberg passed on their sincere thanks on behalf of residents who are well served by seniors in emergency services.

"I am extremely proud to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of older residents who dedicate themselves to helping others in need that should be applauded." Mr Holswich said.

"In our community we have proud volunteers who are selfless in their service, and do so simply in the name of their community."

Mr Ruthenberg said "I would encourage any resident to take the time to pass on their thanks to our seniors for their community volunteering."
