Region to celebrate Seniors Week
Local residents of all ages are invited to join the fun Seniors Week celebrations from 17 to 25 August.
Members for Pine Rivers and Kallangur, Seath Holswich and Trevor Ruthenberg said Seniors Week was an opportunity to acknowledge older people’s achievements and highlight the wealth of experiences and opportunities that lay ahead.
“The annual Seniors Week celebrations recognise the value of older Queenslanders and the contribution they make to our families and communities,” Mr Holswich said.
“In particular, Seniors Week aims to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, and increase the participation of seniors in their communities.
“Queensland seniors have enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy, many varied and exciting life experiences which resonate across generations.
“Today’s young people may be surprised at the similar experiences and common ground they share with Queensland’s over-60s.” Mr Ruthenberg said.
The Queensland Government has provided funding to the Council on the Ageing (COTA) to subsidise Seniors Week events held by community organisations across the state.
Mr Ruthenberg said the government was proud to support events and activities that celebrated the varied and exciting life experiences of older people and interests they shared with younger Queenslanders.
