Have Your Say on Recreational Plans for Dams

Local residents are being urged to have their say as part of the most extensive review for recreation of SEQ dams and catchments ever undertaken.

On the 17th July 2013, Energy and Water Supply Minister, Mark McArdle, will release a discussion paper on the future of recreational options for Lake Samsonvale and Lake Kurwongbah; one in a series of 14 discussion papers covering the region's 26 dams.

Trevor Ruthenberg, Member for Kallangur, said, "These recreational areas are public spaces and we want to hear from everyone involved - from the visitors to the people who live adjacent to these areas."

The community will be able to get involved by attending public information sessions and workshops, accessing information on Seqwater's website and participating in on-line surveys.

Member for Pine Rivers, Seath Holswich, said, "It's important to understand that both Lake Samsonvale and Kurwongbah are also drinking water storages, so this review will need to balance the diversity of recreational activities against ensuring no adverse impact on water quality."

An information booth where the community can pick up a copy of the discussion paper and learn about the process will be held at the following locations:

Lawnton Markets 20th July 6am - 12noon
North Pine Country Markets 21st July 6am - 12 noon

The community is also invited to register for an independent workshop to discuss the concerns and ideas people have for each lake's recreation activities, held on 17th August from 9am - 1pm.

Information for each review as well as the open on-line survey will be available on www.seqwater.com.au.
