Member for Kallangur, Mr Trevor Ruthenberg, and Member for Pine Rivers, Mr Seath Holswich, are pleased to announce that funding for the Petrie Home Assist Secure has increased to $391,000 for the 2013-14 financial year.

"Home Assist Secure removes some of the practical housing-related difficulties experienced by people 60 years and over as well as people with a disability who wish to remain living in their home," Mr Ruthenberg said.

"The service provides free information and referral about home maintenance, repairs, modifications and home security."

Mr Holswich added that "subsidised assistance with minor home maintenance, repairs, modifications and security is also available for eligible clients who are in receipt of an Australian Government pension or benefit and are unable to make use of alternative assistance."

"If you or someone you know could benefit from this service, you can contact Home Assist Secure Petrie on (07) 3889 1852."

"This is a real commitment to this service from the Queensland Government and recognises the value it provides to our community."

Mr Ruthenberg and Mr Holswich support Moreton Bay Regional Council's efforts to ensure the service is properly transferred from Council's stewardship to another organisation.

"It is my understanding that the Council has met with the various State and Federal departments and that they are now waiting on some instructions as to the process to be used to determine what organisation will oversee the Petrie Home Assist Secure," Mr Ruthenberg said.

"We want to make sure the people who benefit from this service in our community aren't disadvantaged by this management change."
