Youth Parliamentarian Seeks Views of Pine Rivers Youth

YMCA Youth Parliamentarian, Ms Caitlin Farrant, is seeking out the views of local youth as she represents Pine Rivers in the 2013 YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament.

Ms Farrant was selected in early 2013 as the representative for Pine Rivers in the annual YMCA Youth Parliament, an initiative funded by the Queensland Government Department of Communities.

Since being selected, Ms Farrant has been appointed to the Sport, Tourism and The Arts Youth Committee and has been preparing a bill that will be debated when Youth Parliament sits in September.

Ms Farrant believes forums such as the YMCA Youth Parliament are vitally important for Queensland's youth.

"It is important for youth to have a voice in government, because we are the future of this state," Ms Farrant said.

"Youth need to be involved in the decisions and changes that affect our communities and our daily lives."

Ms Farrant has an opportunity to present a speech in Youth Parliament about issues that are important to youth in Pine Rivers, and wants to hear from local youth.

"I want to hear about issues that are affecting our area and ways we can solve them."

State Member for Pine Rivers, Mr Seath Holswich MP, has commended Ms Farrant for her approach to her role.

"Caitlin has an obvious passion for her community and her generation," Mr Holswich said.

"She is a shining example of a dedicated young person who will no doubt be a leader in Queensland in years to come."

Any youth in Pine Rivers who would like to make suggestions of important local issues for Ms Farrant's speech can contact her at
