Queensland only state to experience fall in trend unemployment

Treasurer Tim Nicholls has welcomed today’s ABS Labour Force Data, which shows Queensland as the only state in Australia to experience a fall in trend unemployment.

Mr Nicholls said it was another sign that Queensland was growing under the LNP Government.

“Today’s drop in the trend unemployment rate is pleasing,” Mr Nicholls said.

“It shows trend unemployment in Queensland is heading in the right direction, down to 5.8 per cent.

“This is the fourth consecutive monthly drop in unemployment, in trend terms.

“I have always maintained the seasonally adjusted series is volatile.

“It’s important to look at the trend figures, which show a fifth consecutive monthly rise in employment.”

Mr Nicholls said trend figures show 3,900 more Queenslanders were in jobs in February.

“Trend employment growth in Queensland is also double national employment growth for February,” he said.

“Queensland continues to be a major contributor to Australian employment growth.

“Queensland was also the only state in Australia to experience a fall in trend unemployment over the month.

“The Newman Government remains committed to achieving its target of a four per cent unemployment rate over six years.

“Queensland is a Great State with Great Opportunity and we will continue to implement policies that foster further economic growth across the State.”
