Community to Celebrate as AJ Wyllie Bridge Prepares to Reopen

21/11/2012

Local MPs have announced today that they will be coordinating a community celebration to mark the impending re-opening of the reconstructed AJ Wyllie Bridge.

Mr Seath Holswich, State Member for Pine Rivers, acknowledged that the last two years has been a long, tough journey for many residents and businesses.

"Local residents, businesses and commuters have suffered two years of inconvenience, stress and heartache since the January 2011 floods."

"We feel that it is important that we celebrate that we're almost at the end of this stage of the journey and bring some closure to the whole AJ Wyllie Bridge issue."

Mr Trevor Ruthenberg, State Member for Kallangur, is urging local residents, businesses and community groups to get involved in this community celebration.

"We want to create a celebratory atmosphere where we can look back on the past two years and then look forward towards creating an even brighter future for our region."

"We are looking for stall holders, entertainers, businesses who would like to be involved. There will be a small $20 fee for a site, and all money raised from site fees will be donated to our local State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Brigades - organisations who were there for our community during the January 2011 floods and many other disasters."

Mr Holswich added that they are looking for local businesses who are willing to donate prizes towards a monster raffle at the event.

"All money raised from the raffle will also go towards our local volunteer emergency services organisations."

The celebration is being coordinated by Seath Holswich MP, Trevor Ruthenberg MP and The Hon Peter Dutton MP.

The details of the event are:

Saturday 8th December
2:00pm to 6:00pm
Wyllie Park, Gympie Rd, Petrie

"We only have a very small window of time to organize this event in order to make it happen before the bridge reopens, so we'd be keen to hear from anyone who wants to be involved."
