Pine Rivers School Leaders Visit Parliament House

26/09/2012

Pine Rivers MP, Mr Seath Holswich, hosted school leaders from the Pine Rivers electorate at a lunch at Parliament House on Budget Day 2012.

Student leaders, Principals and P&C Presidents from seven local schools attended the lunch with Mr Holswich and guest speaker The Hon Andrew Powell MP, Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection.

Mr Powell spoke to the students about the importance of being involved in the parliamentary process and encouraged students to contribute to public debates on important issues.

Mr Holswich and Mr Powell fielded questions from the students about what led them to enter public life, how does someone get involved in politics and several questions about important local issues.

"It is important that our students get the opportunity to explore our State Parliament and meet those who are leading our state."

"I was pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for our local student leaders to visit Parliament House - for many of them it was their first visit."

"There are many of our current MPs who fondly recall first visiting Parliament House during their school years. I hope this visit might inspire some of our local student leaders to consider a career in government down the track."

Mr Holswich plans to make the School Leaders Lunch an annual event for all Pine Rivers primary school and high school leaders.
